Solomon wrote about friends in the book of Proverbs. He said a friend who is not loyal can let you down. When hard days come, that kind of friend goes away. But a true friend sticks close. Solomon said a real friend can be closer than a brother.
A brother lives in your house. A true friend stays near your heart. That is the kind of friend God gives us.
Jesus is the friend who never walks away. He stays with us when we are sad or scared. And He shows us how to be that kind of friend to others.
You can begin today. Being a friend is often just one small step. Say hello. Ask a question. Sit nearby. You do not need clever words. A kind voice is enough.

Bethany stood at the bus stop after school. Her ribbon felt loose, so she untied it and tied it again. A girl from her class stood nearby, holding her bag with both hands. Nobody talked to her.
Bethany's stomach felt tight. She did not know what to say. Then she remembered how it felt to stand alone.
She walked over. "Hi, I'm Bethany," she said. "Do you want to sit with me?"
The girl smiled. Her name was Anna. They sat on the bench and shared a packet of biscuits. The bus came, and they talked about the noisy fan in their classroom.
Bethany still felt a little shy. But she was not standing alone anymore.

Prayer
God, sometimes I feel shy, and I stand by myself. Sometimes I am afraid no one will say hello to me. Yet I will trust You. You are the friend who sticks closer than a brother. Give me courage to say hello today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
