"Praise be to the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses."

— 1 Kings 8:56 (NIV)

God keeps promises

Today's Story

✍️Fictitious Story
The humming from the kitchen had stopped, and Grace noticed. Her mother was always humming while she washed the dishes. But now the tap was off, and the house felt too quiet. "Mummy, where is Yellow Duck?" Grace asked. She had looked under the bed, behind the door, and inside her toy box. Yellow Duck was missing. Her mother came in, drying her hands on a towel. "I told you we would find him together," she said. "Let me look." They searched the bookshelf, the cupboard, and the basket of laundry. Grace felt her eyes getting hot. What if Yellow Duck was gone forever? Then her mother reached under the sofa cushion. "Is this who we are looking for?" Yellow Duck appeared, squashed and smiling. Grace hugged him tight. Her mother had promised they would find him. And they did.

Reflection

Grace's mother kept her promise. When she said, "We will find him together," she meant it. And Grace could hold Yellow Duck again. The Bible tells us that God makes promises too. In 1 Kings 8:56, someone said, "Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave." That means every single thing God has promised, He will do. God promised to love us. He does. God promised to be with us. He is. God promised to hear us when we pray. He listens every time. Can you think of a promise someone kept for you? Maybe your daddy said he would push you on the swing, and he did. God is even better at keeping promises than anyone else. Today, you can say thank you to someone who helps you but might not expect a note. A cleaner at school, a bus driver, or an old teacher. A small note that says "Thank you" can make someone smile all day. That is a way of saying thank you to God too.

Think About It

• What is one promise God has kept for you, like keeping you safe or giving you a family?

• Who is someone you can write a thank-you note to today?

Prayer

Father, thank You for Yellow Duck, for my family, and for every promise You have kept. You never forget Your word. Help me to say thank You to someone special today. All glory to You. Amen.

Live It Out

Write a thank-you note to someone unexpected—a cleaner, a bus driver, an old teacher—and send it today.
