God said these words to his people Israel. They were worried and tired. God did not say, "Be brave all by yourself." He said, "I am with you."
Look at the order. First God says do not fear. Then he gives the reason: I am your God. His promise is not about being strong enough. It is about who is standing beside you.
Then God says, "I will strengthen you and help you." And one more: "I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." That means God holds you up, the way Dad's hand holds yours when you cross a busy street. You are not holding on alone.
That creak in the corridor is a real sound. Lucas heard it. But it did not sleep in the room with him. God was already there.
Tonight, when you feel scared, you can whisper, "God is with me." Then take three slow breaths. God is not far away. He is right beside your bed.

The corridor light clicked off. Lucas pulled his blanket up to his chin. His wooden toy bus lay right beside his pillow, where it always slept.
Then came a sound. Creak. His eyes opened wide. The shadows on the wall grew long and strange.
He slid down under the blanket and made himself very small.
Then he remembered the verse from Sunday. He whispered it into the pillow. "God is with me."
He pushed the blanket down from his face. He took one slow breath. Then two. Then three. His heart slowed.
Dad's footsteps came down the corridor, and Dad looked in to check the room for drafts.
"You all right?" Dad asked.
"There was a creak," Lucas said. "But God is with me. So I'm all right."
Dad smiled and left the door a little open.
