The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.

— Proverbs 12:22 (NIV)

The Lord detests lying lips but delights in trustworthy people

Today's Story

✍️Fictitious Story
Dinesh wanted water. He stood on the stool to reach the glass shelf. His fingers touched a glass, and it slipped. Clink. Pieces on the floor. Dinesh froze. His heart went fast. He thought, Amma will be angry. Maybe I can say I did not do it. But he was the only one in the kitchen. Priya came in holding her phone. She looked at the floor. She looked at Dinesh. His voice came out small. "Amma, it was me. I dropped it." Priya put the phone down. She got the broom. "Thank you for telling me," she said. "Stand back. The pieces are sharp." Dinesh stepped back. His heart slowed down.

Reflection

Proverbs 12:22 says God hates lying lips. That is strong language. It means God really does not like it when we hide the truth. But the same verse says God delights in people who are trustworthy. Delights means he is glad. Like a warm smile, not a frown. God is glad when we say the true thing, even when our voice is small and shaky. Notice something. The broken cup was not the big problem. Cups break. Mistakes happen. The bigger danger was the lie Dinesh almost told. A lie would have made him hide. Telling the truth kept him out in the open with his mother. God does not promise that every mistake goes away. But he promises this: he is glad when we tell the truth. You do not have to be perfect. You just have to be honest.

Think About It

• Why is telling the truth right away better than hiding a mistake?
• Who could you tell the truth to today, even if you feel scared?

Prayer

God, You are the God who sees everything, and You still love me. You do not want me to hide. You are glad when I tell the truth. When I am scared, You are with me. I will speak the truth today. Amen.

Live It Out

If you make a mistake today, tell a grown-up the truth right away.
