But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Fruit of the Spirit

Today's Story

✍️Fictitious Story
At lunch, Bethany carried her tray down the row of tables. A girl from her class sat alone, pushing her rice around with a spoon. Bethany's ribbon felt loose, so she untied it and tied it again. Then she walked back. "Can I sit here?" she asked. The girl looked up. "Okay," she said. They ate together. The girl's name was Nadia, and she had moved to the city two weeks ago. Bethany showed her where the cups were kept. When the bell rang, Nadia said, "See you tomorrow?" Bethany nodded. That night at home, she did not tell anyone about the table. She just set out the plates for dinner.

Reflection

Paul wrote a letter to a church and told them about fruit. Fruit is not something you build with tools. Fruit grows. An apple does not try hard to be an apple. It stays on the branch and grows sweet. Paul said God's Spirit grows fruit in us too: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness. Kindness is one of them. It grows in you because God's Spirit lives in you. So when Bethany sat down at that table, she was not earning a prize. Kindness was already growing in her. God planted it there. Being kind does not need to be big or loud. It can be one chair pulled out. One hello. One dropped crayon picked up. Paul even said nobody can make a law against kindness. It is always the right thing to do. Today, do one small kind thing. Keep it quiet between you and God. He sees it, and that is enough.

Think About It

• Who is one person you saw sitting alone today?
• What is one small kind thing you could do for them without anyone knowing?

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your Spirit, who grows kindness in me. Thank You for the chair I can offer, the hello I can say, the crayon I can pick up. I believe You see what nobody else sees. All glory to You. Amen.

Live It Out

Today, do one kind thing for someone and do not tell anyone. You could say hello to a classmate sitting alone, pick up a dropped crayon, push in a chair, or help a little brother wipe up a spill. Do it quietly, and let it be just between you and God.
