For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

— Psalm 30:5 (NIV)

Psalm of thanksgiving for healing

Today's Story

✍️Fictitious Story
Emma's friend Dinesh was moving to another school. On his last day, he gave her the invisibility comic they had made together. Emma put it in her bag and did not open it. At home, she sat on the floor beside her bed. She pulled out her pink water bottle and turned it in her hands. Then she opened her bag and took out the comic. Dinesh had drawn a whole page of the two of them on the lunch bench. Emma's eyes got hot. She did not hide it. She climbed onto Papa's lap, where his quiet felt safe just then. "Papa, I'm sad," she said. "Dinesh is gone." Papa held her and did not tell her to stop. Later, Mum braided her hair and Emma told her too. That night she whispered to God about the empty lunch bench.

Reflection

David wrote Psalm 30 after God healed him. He looked back at a hard time and said something strange and true: the hard time did not last forever. "Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." Night feels long when you are sad. Sadness is real. God does not tell you to stop crying. The psalm says weeping stays for the night, not that it never comes. But night is not the whole story. Morning comes too. Notice what David did. He cried out to God. He did not stuff his sadness down and pretend. He told God the truth about his tears, and God heard him. So today, if your heart feels heavy, you can do what David did. Tell God exactly how you feel. He is not annoyed by your tears. And tell a grown-up too, because God often hugs us through the arms of someone who loves us.

Think About It

• When you feel sad, do you hide it or tell someone?
• What could you say to God about your sad feelings today?

Prayer

God, my heart feels heavy and I want to cry. You see my tears and You are not far away. Night feels long, and I do not understand everything. Yet I will trust You. Hold me close and bring morning. Amen.

Live It Out

If you feel sad today, tell God and ask a grown-up for a hug.
